About the CourseAbout the courseThe South West regional anaesthesia course is a well established course with experienced faculty. This course is aimed at medically qualified anaesthetists of all grades who wish to expand their knowledge of regional anaesthesia. The teaching will be principally delivered delivered by small group hands on scanning practice (max ratio 4 delegates/ ultrasound machine), incorporating live demonstrations of relevant sonoanatomy. There are opportunities to practice needling on ultrasound phantoms with one to one guidance from the faculty. We also use formal lectures to cover the physics underpinning ultrasound guided regional anaesthesia, and to outline the latest evidence relevant to regional anaesthesia in upper limb and lower limb surgery. Over the 2 days we will attempt to cover all the major upper and lower limb peripheral nerve blocks, as well as abdominal and basic neuroaxial blocks. Particular emphasis will be placed upon the 7 "Plan A blocks" . We will focus exclusively on ultrasound guided techniques as this is now mainstream practice. We will also cover relevant anatomy and pharmacolgy ,equipment, conduct of anaesthesia, and complications. CPD approval for 12 points has been obtained form the Royal College of Anaesthetists, and our course content has EDRA approval for the EDRA exam (11 Ultrasound hands-on points + 0.5 other points)
